KISS in Paradise: Paul's Island
After the last boat arrived, Paul took note of the people who chose to
reside on "his" island. Paul noted quickly there was only a handful of
men and about 25 women! "Could get interesting," he thought to himself.
He called the new island residents to attention. Since Paul knew he
wasn't much of an outdoorsman, he figured the first thing they should
do is find out what kinds of skills everyone had. This would let
everyone help where they could be the most effective. Ultimately, they
would all probably learn new skills from each other.
When the jobs were distributed, Paul thought he should explore the
island a bit. He thought it would be important to know the area and
anticipate any possible trouble. Paul grabbed two knives, one for him
and one for his appointed assistant, Mary Ann. She was a former
executive secretary who said her best skill was "right hand man." Paul
thought she might be someone he could brainstorm with, especially since
she hailed from a rural area. She already had some thoughts on catching
seafood. She also had the type of personality that looked challenge in
the eye.
On their trek, Paul and Mary Ann took note of the native life of the
island: wild dogs, monkeys, rats and such. Neither one seemed to be
thrilled, but they did discuss setting up security, not only for
safety, but to protect their precious limited supplies, such as food.
They also spent a significant amount of time together discussion ideas
for storm proofing, food preservation, daily chores, and a boat
schedule to track usage.
Over the course of the first week, the islanders implemented these
plans. Paul was relieved that his group seemed to be made of people
with easygoing personalities who were willing to work together for
survival. The worse event of the week was mass sunburn.
By Day 7, Paul and his group of fans had established a functioning
colony. They decided to relax that night and have a "get to know each
other" gathering complete with music from Paul, who made sure to bring
his acoustic guitar to the island…
