Wildest Dreams
by Shea

Part Two

Shea lay awake a long time, aching with desire from Paul's
touch. But she felt like she had done the right thing. He was
interested and it would seem in more than just going to bed with her.
'Well,' she thought to herself, ' he's going to be here for at least
three months so there's time to get to know him in more than just the
physical sense.' Which is what she wanted, to get to know the man
she'd admired from afar since she was sixteen. She turned over and
went to sleep for the long day that awaited her tomorrow.
She was awakened not by her alarm clock but by the phone beside
her bed ringing. The clock read 6:30am. Groggily she answered the
phone.
"Wake up sleepyhead." a warm voice on the other end said.
"Hey Paul. How are you?"
"Great! I wanted to apologize if I was taking things a bit too fast
last nite. I'd really like to see you again."
"Well, I was worried that you'd think I was either a slut or
desperately horny the way I was acting last nite." Shea said, glad he
couldn't see her as she was blushing furiously.
"Shea, I seriously doubt you could ever be a slut. Seems to me to
have too much class for that."
"Thank you."
"I was wondering if you were free for lunch today. Rehershals start
tomorrow and I was hoping you could show me around town."
"I might, but I have classes all day at the dojo. Maybe I could
meet you for lunch and we'll take it from there.though. I do get
time off for that, is twelve o'clock good for you?"
"I can call you at the school and let you know, if that's ok."
"Sure. Give me a call and we'll play it by ear, ok? I need to get
ready to go. I have to go over some class cirriculum with Sensei
Chappell before classes start."
"Ok sounds like a plan. I guess I"ll talk to you then."
"Good deal. Bye Paul."
"Talk to you later Shea."
Shea got out of bed and got dressed for work, glad that she only had
the dojo that day and didn't have to go to the health club.
"See ya later Carol!" Shea yelled before walking out the door to
her car.
A few minutes later, she was walking through the doors of the
Golden Dragon, heavy gear bag slung over one shoulder. She made her
way to the women's dressing room where she changed into her blue judo
uniform so she could go over some of the ju jitsu ciricculum with
Mr. Chappell. They went over the new takedowns and throws they
would be teaching the class later that day.
Shea had a new intro lesson, a pair of five year old home
schooled twins. She enjoyed working with the children who came to the
dojo. After the intro class was done, she helped the other assistant
instructor Bo, put out some mats for tumbling practice and so they
could work on throws and takedowns.
They worked on De-Ashi-Hari, a takedown that involved
sweeping the advancing foot before it touched the ground and a knee
wheel throw called Hiza-Garuma. Mr Donnie went over a few new throws
and choke holds that they had to know for their upcoming rank test in
ju jitsu.
"Think you're ready for the test?" Bo asked her as they took a
water break.
"I think so. I just hope I can get that floating hip throw working
better." Shea responded.
"Don't worry, you'll get it. I think its your foot placement. If
you got them a little closer together you'd have it working great."
"Thanks, I'll try that next time we work on it. I was wondering if
my feet weren't placed right."
Shea went to the back room where the hanging bags were so she
could supervise students taking part in Ten round club. This class
was to build stamina and improve sparring techniques by working the
bags for two minutes, resting for one minute until a total of ten
rounds were completed. Students could also jump rope, work with
medicine balls or grapple, the object was to be working during the
two minute rounds. She wrapped her hands to avoid injuring her
wrists and slipped on a pair of bag gloves to protect her knuckles.
"Ok everyone on your mark get set, and begin."
Shea worked the Muy Thai bag, a bag that was long enough to
touch the ground from where it hung. She found it worked well for her
to practice her lower kicks and elbow strikes. After Ten round club
was over, it was time for her last class before lunch, the homeschool
kids. Mr Donnie had her help the students who were having problems
learning the new form the class was learning.
Near the end of class, Rebecca, Mr. Donnie's oldest daughter
came to tell her she had a phone call. Shea went into the office to
take the call.
"Hi Shea, how are you?" Paul asked
"I'm good, just looking forward to lunch. I have a long day ahead of
me."
"Well, how about I pick you up and we'll go grab a bite? I'm looking
forward to seeing you again."
"Sounds good. We're in the strip mall a half block from the Mapco
where we met. Think you can find it?"
"Yeah, I stopped at the drugstore in that mall the same day we
met. You're two doors down from the Walgreen's right?"
"That's the place. Just come on in. Sometimes class runs over. I'll
be with you as soon as I can."
"Ok see you in a few minutes" Paul said.
"See you"
Shea hung up the phone and thanked Ms. Donna for the use of
the phone. Rebecca, the oldest of the six Chappell kids, walked out
to the floor with her to help with the homeschool kids. Rebecca
draped an arm across her shoulders as they walked out to the workout
floor.
"Sounds like you have a boyfriend." She teased.
"Well, we just met yesterday. But I do like him," Shea said with a
grin. "He's coming by to take me to lunch."
Shea was so busy with class that she didn't see Paul walk
into the dojo. Paul stood at the waist high wall that surrounded the
workout floor and watched Shea working with a boy about the same age
as his son Evan. He couldn't help but smile as she patiently
explained something to the little boy. It wasn't long before Mr
Donnie had the kids line up by rank and bowed the class out.
Shea turned around and saw Paul standing there watching. She
walked off the workout floor as she untied her belt.
"I see you found the place. Oh, Mr Donnie, this is Paul Eisen, Paul,
my sensei, Mr Donnie."
"Nice to meet you." Mr Donnie said, shaking Paul's hand.
"Same here." Paul said. "I came by to take Shea to lunch, what time
do I need to bring her back?"
"One would be fine. We have a class shortly after that time," Mr
Donnie said."Bo is taking the intros scheduled for that time."
"Good. Are you ready to go or do you need to change?"
"Well that depends on where we're going. I only have a pair of jeans
in my bag."
"That's fine. I just thought we could go grab a pizza or something
like that."
"Well, I'll change hang on I'll be back in a few."
Shea emerged a few moments later in regular street clothes,
ready to go to lunch. They decided to go to the nearby pizza place
and hit the buffet/salad bar.
Paul placed their order and returned to the booth with their plates
and drinks.
"Ready to hit the buffet?" Paul asked as he set the tray on the
table.
"Sure."
The restaurant had a great selection in both pizza and salad
toppings. Paul chose a salad and a few slices of vegetarian pizza.
Shea also made a salad and went with a few slices of spinach and
pepperoni pizza. They returned to the table with their food and sat
down.
"Can I ask you something?" Paul said
"Sure. What do you want to know?"
"You mentioned you were going for a rank in ju jitsu. What's the
difference in that and karate?"
"Well, most forms of karate deal more in kicking and punching with
some forms adding some throws. Judo which is related to ju jitsu
involves throwing with some strikes thrown in. Judo is considered the
sport form of ju jitsu which is more 'combat oriented' "
"That's fascinating. And you got into this because you won a free
month of karate four years ago? Not many people would have stayed
past the first month I bet."
"We had a few more win the same thing and many of them didn't last
even the first few classes. I guess cause Mr Donnie lets even white
belts spar, some people find out pretty quick they don't like being
hit, even with hand pads on."
"I bet they didn't,." Paul laughed. "But you toughed it out huh?"
"Yeah I'd been fascinated with the martial arts for a long time but
never had the opportunity to actually pursue it until I won that free
month."
"I'm impressed, I bet you can hold your own can't you?"
"I get by, I still have much to learn, even though I'm a black belt
now and a new one at that. I just got it a few months ago."
"So the learning doesn't stop at black belt??"
"No, you can go as high as tenth degree black belt. You've really
learned only the basics by the time you get your first black belt. My
sensei is a third degree in Shin Nagare karate, and a second degree
in Tae Kwon do and Tang So Do as well as being ranked in Judo and two
forms of Ju Jitsu."
"Wow, he must have started when he was pretty young, he doesn't seem
to be much over thirty I would guess."
"Yes, he's been in this since he was a teenager. You've heard of the
Ultimate Fighting Championships haven't you?"
"I think I saw one of those on cable one time on tour. That's where
guys fight each other in like a metal cage, practically no holds
barred fighting?
"That's it. He fought in one. The other guy beat him though, I think
he did some illegal move, but not without a tough fight."
"Wow. He must be pretty good."
"He is, he used to compete point fighting but gave it up because he
said he couldn't afford to get hurt and be unable to work, he's got a
large family to support. Six kids and another on the way."
"Wow, I bet its never a dull moment at his house.," Paul said with a
smile. "Are his kids in karate too?
"Yep, his oldest daughter Rebecca and his oldest son Caleb are both
junior grade black belts. Mandy just recieved hers a few months ago."
"What's the difference between a Jr. Grade black belt and a regular
black belt."
"Jr. grade, you fight only people in your age group. Until you've
either turned sixteen or fought adults you stay at jr grade."
"I never knew there was so much to martial arts."
"Yeah there's alot more to it than most people think. People think
its about fighting but there is more to it than that--discipline,
respect, hard work and goal setting. We learn ways to avoid fights
whenever possible. I still have a long way to go in some areas.
Like in my case, kicking is not my strong suit, at least when it
comes to the fancier kicks, so that's something I'm always working to
improve for myself. Fancy kicks look cool but aren't always the best
to use for self defense. Too easy for the other guy to figure out
what you're going to do unless you're very fast."
"I'd like to come watch a class sometime. It sounds interesting."
"Well, maybe you can come by after lunch and watch, if you don't have
rehershals."
"That would be great."
When lunch was over, Paul drove Shea back to the dojo. She
showed him where spectators sat to watch classes and went to the
dressing room to change. It was time for the home school kids to come
in for class. Paul watched as Shea worked with some five to seven
year old kids, teaching them what another parent called a form for a
graduation the school was having in another month. He was amazed at
the patience she displayed with the young students and the way the
kids listened carefully to what she had to say. After the form, she
had the students put on their sparring gear for sparring practice.
She placed a student at opposing corners while the two
students about to spar faced each other.
"Bow to me, Bow to each other, touch hands and FIGHT!"
When one would land a punch or kick, Shea would stop the battle and
say "Judges call." then the kids on the opposing corners would point
to the fighter who had landed the blow. From what Paul could tell,
one finger signified one point for a punch and two fingers was for a
kick above the belt. After five points, the fighters would change and
the process would start again and the process was repeated until
class was over. The students would line up according to belt color
and bow out.
"Hey Shea, is that who I think it is watching class?" Bo asked her
as they left the workout floor
"Depends on who you think it is." Shea replied with a knowing smile
"That's a member of KISS, isn't it?" He said.
"Yep that's Paul. He's going to be in Phantom of the Opera at
Tennesee Performing Arts Center. Come on. I'll introduce you."
As Bo and Shea walked over to Paul, she explained she was introducing
him by his real last name to protect his privacy. "No problem,." Bo
said "I would bet it gets old having people mob you all the time."
"Paul, I'd like you to meet Bo, he's an instructor here too. Bo,
this is Paul Eisen."
"Nice to meet you Bo. I was watching you with the other half of the
class. You're good with the kids. That's a special gift not many
have. "
"Thanks, I do enjoy working with the kids. Maybe one day I'll have
my own school."
"Well, from what Shea tells me, you've got a great teacher in Mr
Donnie."
"Yes, he's always trying to learn new things to teach us. Shea, are
you ready for the ju jitsu class?"
"Yeah, I just need to put my judo top on and change my belt. I'll be
right back."
Shea left Bo and Paul talking as she made her way to the
women's dressing room. She put on her judo top, which was heavier
than a standard karate top to prevent it from tearing when practicing
throws and her green belt. Today they would be working on De Ashi
Harai, an advancing foot sweep and Hiza Garuma, a knee wheel.
Shea returned to the workout floor where the mats were already
spread out on the floor and prepared to bow in with the rest of the
class.
Paul watched as Shea first practiced what they
called 'breakfalls', falling onto the mats and slapping with her
hands. Then he watched her take her turn throwing people to the mat,
some of them considerably larger than she was. It was quite a sight
to see a 5'2" woman throw a man over 6' tall with seemingly little
effort. But he supposed that was the whole concept behind what he
was seeing. It made him wince to see her fall when she was thrown,
because the slapping noise she made when she fell seemed loud to him.
He didn't see or hear the young man come up on his right side as he
watched. He felt someone tap on his shoulder.
"Yes," Paul asked turning to face him.
"Don't I know you from somewhere." He asked
"I don't know depends on where you think you know me from." Paul
responded, his face an impassive mask, sensing his next words.
"Aren't you one of the guys from KISS?" he asked.
Paul sighed, knowing his 'cover' was blown. "Yes, I am."
"Can I ask you something? Is it true you and the rest of the band
are satanists?"
Paul sighed again before responding. "No it's not. Did you hear that
from your preacher or something?"
"Yes I did. He said you admitted it."
"I have NEVER admitted to being a satanist. To me satanism is stupid
because its just Christianity, which has great ideals for people to
live by, turned upside down. I would be willing to bet that if any of
these people messing with that stuff ever came across a real devil
or demon, they'd crap in their pants."
"But where did he get that idea? He had to get it from somewhere."
"My theory is, a comment made by either Gene or myself was taken
completely out of context. Thats all. Think for a minute, would I be
this comfortable around you, a Christian if I WERE a satanist??? I
don't think so. Besides, I'm Jewish." Paul said, pointing to his Star
of David.
The young man still looked skeptical, but if he didn't believe him,
Paul felt it was no skin off his nose.
He left Paul standing against the waist high wall and joined the
class. Paul shook his head as he marvelled at the thought that people
still believed that nonsense.
Shea came over to him during a break in the action after he motioned
her over.
"I need to run a few errands. I'll be back a little later, ok? If
not, I'll call you."
"Is everything ok?" Shea asked
"Yeah it's fine, I forgot about a few errands I need to run. I'll
see you later ok?"
"Ok. I hope Billy didn't upset you. I saw you two talking."
"That? Nah, I still get it from time to time. I'm going to go pick
up some drycleaning and check my answering machine. The director may
have called me. Want to get together after your last class tonite?"
"That would be great. I could cook dinner for you if you like, I
think Carol has to go work on her RenFair costume tonite so we'd have
the place to ourselves."
"Lady, you've got deal." Paul said as he hugged her.
"See you later." Shea whispered as she hugged him back.
